Whilst I’m a major red lipstick addict (ask anyone, my personality completely changes when I’ve got a beautiful red on my pout), bright pink lips are one of my favourite looks for the spring and summer time, and even in the cooler months for a pop of colour. Bright fuchsias and pinks are less daunting than a red, but they can actually be harder to pull off…

Pick the Right Shade

Bright pink lipstick is generally a pretty universal shade and it looks great on everyone and anyone, from those with super fair, porcelain skin to people in between and black beauties with deep, rich, skin. I’m a believer you can wear any shade you want to, but as a brief guide, fair to light skin looks best with super bright, neutral toned pinks, anything too warm can make the complexion look sallow and anything too cool can wash it out (Try: Maybelline Color Drama Lip Crayon 150 Fuchsia Desire)  Medium, olive and tanned skin can rock any shade, but warm, watermelon pinks are best (Try: Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Finish Lipstick 106) Darker skintones compliment bright, cool toned fuchsias well. (Try: Max Factor Colour Elixir Giant Pen Stick in 15 Vibrant Pink)

CLEAN Skin

If you’ve ever looked at photos backstage from fashion week, you’ll notice one thing. Any model who is wearing a bold pink isn’t wearing much of anything else. Light, dewy coverage, a little mascara and a brushed up brow looks incredibly chic with a bright pink lip.

Shimmer Free

Repeat after me, shimmer and frost are bad. Pink lips can lean a little ‘80s on their own so shimmery, glittery and frosty finished only outdate the look. When it comes to bright pink, fuchsia lips my favourite formula of the bunch is a  creamy finish that is completely shimmer free and looks like the lips. You can also try a matte finish, but steer clear of anything overly matte and don’t go too bright as the more matte a product is, the more neon it can appear.

Use Your Fingers

One of my all time favourite lipstick techniques is to pat product on with my fingertips. It looks chic, understated and like you didn’t really try to hard and it’s great if you’re someone who’s afraid of colour. It’s super simple and all you need to do is swipe the lipstick bullet onto your index finger and gently pat the product into the lips, it gives a beautiful stain effect that’s both long lasting and sheer.
