Do I need to use a cleansing tool/brush (like the Clarisonic) or is it okay to just use my hands?

Cleansing tools have gained quite a bit of attention over the past couple of years, some people love them, some people don’t.

Whilst cleansing tools aren’t 110% necessary in your skincare routine they can be really great at helping you get a deeper clean making them especially great for people who suffer with congested, oily skin.

I’m personally NOT a fan of the *Clarisonic and it is not something I recommend. I have found that it is too harsh on the skin and it has been known to cause broken capillaries (not to mention it can actually spread bacteria, causing more acne/breakouts!) I know that many dermatologists advise against the use of the Clarisonic. I do however recommend some cleansing tools such as the ones listed below:

*Foreo Luna

Olay Fresh Effects Va-Va-Vivid! Powered Contour Cleansing System

Being one of the first alternatives to the Clarisonic this cleansing tool has a big buzz around it. I love this because it contains small silicone bristles which gently (but deeply) cleanse the skin and help to remove impurities. It doesn’t make my skin feel tight, dry or irritated.

*Olay Fresh Effects Va-Va-Vivid! Powered Contour Cleansing System

VERY Similar to the Forero Luna and a great drugstore alternative. The bristles aren’t AS soft and are a little bit longer but it still cleanses gently and effectively. It comes in a set with an Olay Cleanser (which I do not recommend) but can be used with any cream/gel/foam cleanser you own.

Muslin Cloth

This removes your cleanser rather than massaging it into your skin but it definitely needs a mention. Muslin Cloths are one of my favourite skincare tools, they effectively remove all traces of cleanser and give the skin a very mild exfoliation that is gentle enough for use on a daily basis.

I am not against using  (clean) hands to cleanse the skin as in most cases it is perfectly effective. Sometimes I actually prefer them over cleansing tools because they aren’t abrasive and can help warm up the product thus making it work more effectively.

I hope I helped you and if you need anything else feel free to ask.

If any product you use irritates you discontinue use immediately.
