When I think of Estee Lauder I’m instantly transported back to the days when I was passed hand-me down beauty products from my family and the one product I’ll never forget is an iconic Estee Lauder All Day Long Red Lipstick, I used to slather it all over my lips and think I was the most sophisticated little girl in the world. Nowadays Estee Lauder products are seriously lacking in my never-ending beauty product collection and when I saw the Estee Lauder Pure Color Cheek Rush Blushes I had a “OMG I NEED THESE THIS INSTANT" moment.
Estee Lauder Pure Color Cheek Rush
The packaging of this is chic and classy, nothing less than what I would come to expect from Estee Lauder. The colour of the product is shown and tipped off with a gorgeous gold cap and pump, extremely similar to Makeup Forever and ELF HD Blushes. Although hygienic; the issue I have with this kind of pump packaging is I usually end up dispensing far too much product than needed - no matter how gentle I am.
Estee Lauder claims it’s: “a lightweight, innovative, transparent gel that provides cheeks with a pop of sheer, juicy colour for a fresh-faced look. Its sensational water-based formula is cool to the touch and leaves cheeks feeling hydrated through an infusion of natural extracts and moisturising ingredients"
The water-based formula is an excellent touch… in theory. I found that the water-based formula of this blush meant it didn’t sit or blend well into my foundation which resulted in a patchy, uneven colour application which accentuated breakouts and dry spots on my cheeks. The formula reminded me a lot of serums and whilst I’m a fan of using serums over makeup to give a dewy finish but the gel/water-based formula of this product just didn’t sit well with me, or my skin.
Estee Lauder Pure Color Cheek Rush Swatch Pink Patent blended and unblended
The formula is definitely a transparent, sheer gel, the colour is super sheer which means that the more natural looking shades don’t show up on the skin well, I don’t like my blush to look like clown paint but I don’t want it to look like I’m as colorless as a ghost. For me the colour is sheerer than I would like it to be, whilst it still gives a subtle flush to my cheeks I prefer my blush to have a wee bit more intensity to it. There are four shades in the range which would cater to all skin-tones, because of the sheerness fair skinned girls could wear even the deepest, berry looking shades and still pull it off.
In terms of application, I experimented with loads of different techniques hoping that this product would look flawless on my skin. In the end fingers were the winner.
Overall I felt this product could be better; it isn’t the worst product I’ve tried but it won’t be making its way into my everyday makeup bag anytime soon. For $60 I feel they aren’t worth it.
