What is Bronzer

Back to the Basics: Bronzer

A bronzer is a warm toned matte or shimmer based product designed to help bring warmth to the face.

Bronzers are available in multiple formulas such as cream, gel and powder.

Powders are most commonly used and generally the easiest to apply, but can sometimes look muddy. They should be applied over powder with a large fluffy brush.

Cream formulas glide over foundation beautifully, but if you have uneven skin appear streaky. Best applied on top of other cream formulas with fingertips or a foundation brush.

Gels can have a tendency to look very streaky and can be difficult to apply. They are quite sheer and colour can be gradually built up. Gel bronzer should be applied on top of other cream formulas very sparingly with the fingertips, a foundation brush or buffed in with a natural hair face brush.

Bronzer should be applied where the sun naturally hits in a “3” motion: around the hairline, the temples, onto the sides of the cheeks, around the jawline and chin. (Bronzer Tutorial)

The purpose of a bronzer is to give you a beautiful, naturally sunkissed glow, as though you had been on holiday for a while or just got a healthy dose of vitamin D. Bronzer isn’t designed to:

  • be used all over your face as a setting powder
  • be used as a foundation
  • be used as a contouring product (if your bronzer is cool toned and completely shimmer free it CAN be used to contour)
  • change the colour of your skintone
