How to Fix a Broken Powder

Picture this: You’re rushing to get out the door and use your favourite powder, only to accidentally knock it off your vanity, with it shattering into a million pieces. Sound all too similar? You don’t have to rush out and purchase a new one ASAP or cry in tears because it was limited edition, there is a way to fix it.

For fixing broken powder products we use a similar method to pressing a pigment except there are a few minor differences. This method can be used for just about any pressed powder formulation, such as bronzers, powder foundations/setting powders, blushes, highlighters, eye shadows, etc. However; this won’t work for multicolored products like Physicians Formula Happy Booster Blush. It will work for products which are one colour and have an embossed print but it will have a smooth surface instead.

How to fix broken makeup

You will need: Your broken product (in this case it is a Essence Silky Touch Blush that I purposely threw on the floor so I could write this how to guide), a small bowl, a knife or metal spatula, rubbing alcohol (can be bought from pharmacies/drugstores) paper towel and a small brush.

how to fix broken makeup

Step 1: Smash the powder up until it becomes loose and powdery and easy to remove.

Step 2: Scrape powder into small bowl and if needed crush it a little more.

Step 3: Add a few drops of rubbing alcohol (best to start off with less than too much)

Step 4: Mix the rubbing alcohol & powder up until it becomes a thick paste. If needed add more rubbing alcohol.

Step 5: Scrape the paste back into the pan, smoothing as you go.

Step 6: Take some paper towel and press it over the product to remove any excess rubbing alcohol and press the product down.

Step 7: Dip your small brush into rubbing alcohol and clean up the edges.

Step 8: All done! Allow to dry with the lid of the product open, wipe away your tears and pretend it never happened!

PS: I highly recommend sanitizing all your tools before doing this. (Your spatula, knife, bowl, brush)

PPS: You don’t need to be worried about using rubbing alcohol. As long as you allow it to dry the alcohol will evaporate and won’t alter the performance of the product.
