Foundation and concealer are both pretty basic products in the makeup
world, and both have many similarities, but it is pretty easy to get
them confused.
Foundation
Foundation is pretty self
explanatory really, your foundation is literally laying a “foundation”
or base for the rest of your makeup. It covers minor imperfections and
helps to even out the skintone (so if you’ve got redness or darkness,
this will help) Foundation is designed to be used all over the face,
whilst concealer isn’t.
Concealer
Concealer is again pretty self explanatory, you use it to conceal the things you don’t like! Sort of like the grown up sister of foundation, it’s something you don’t want to be using all over the face, it should be used sparingly and only on those areas where you need that bit extra coverage, such as on pimples, dark circles, scars or on any other skin imperfections. If your skin isn’t great, please resist the urge to apply concealer all over your face, and opt for a medium to full coverage foundation.
In short:
Foundation is designed to be used all over the face, whilst concealer is designed to be used sparingly and only on areas where you need that bit extra coverage.
You may find that depending on your skin you can either get away with just a light layer of foundation, or no foundation at all and just concealer where needed. If you have a lot of skin concerns you may feel you need to go all out and apply both products in order to achieve flawless looking skin.
You don’t need both, you can pick one or the other. If you want to, you can use both, but it’s entirely up to you. Either way, just make sure that with every product you use that you start slowly and build it up
