Hi! Do you have any tips to prevent liquid eyeliner from smudging onto the eyelid? Especially for all-day wearing. Thanks :)

When it comes to getting the perfect winged liner it can take a fair amount of time to perfect and it is often not without the help of cotton tips and eye makeup remover. If getting your eyeliner perfect wasn’t frustrating enough on its own, having it smudge all over the place after a couple of hours after applying certainly is.

Use a good eyelid primer (and set it!)

Even if you don’t plan on wearing any eyeshadow, an eyelid/shadow primer is something that can really benefit  you if you have issues with mascara and eyeliner smudging. I’m obsessed with the NARS Pro-Prime Smudge-Proof Eyeshadow Primer because it mattifies the eyelids and keeps everything in place. I also recommend setting your eyeshadow primer with a bit of loose powder or sheer eyeshadow in a beige shade, this will help further lock the primer into place so your liner will stay longer.

Use a waterproof, long-wearing eyeliner

This is something that is relatively obvious, but if you tend to have issues with oiliness on the eyelids/makeup smudging you should be using an eyeliner that has exception staying power. I swear by the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner, it comes in a variety of shades and stays put through heat and humidity. There are drugstore brands that do great liquid liners, but if you’re after intense staying power it’s not really worth wasting your time (or money) with them.

Set Your Eyeliner

If you’re using a liquid liner it’s probably because you want a beautiful, crisp clean liner, in which case this tip might not be for you. If you don’t mind a softer effect to your eyeliner and eye makeup then you can really benefit you. After applying your liquid liner, use a small brush to apply some black eyeshadow directly over the top of the liquid, tracing the shape carefully. This will help get rid of any of the moisture in the eyeliner and make it drier and therefore less likely to smudge.

Set Your Concealer

You’re probably thinking “huh,  I have issues with my eyeliner not my concealer?” but if smudging eye makeup is a big issue for you, setting your concealer underneath your eyes may just fix that. Eye makeup (especially mascaras and eyeliners) tend to be attracted to creamy products on the face such as concealers.
