Do you have any tips/product recommendations for applying mascara to your lower lashes? Mine always end up looking messy and uneven whenever I apply mascara.

Lower lashes can sometimes appear invisible to the naked eye so you wouldn’t be the first person to want to accentuate them with a little mascara, however a quick hint of definition can quickly turn into a spidery, thick, clumpy mess…

Wipe Your Wand

Many people are scared to wipe their mascara wand on a tissue before use because they’re afraid they will “waste product” but you really shouldn’t be using your mascara for any longer than six months anyway. Wiping your mascara wand on a tissue can help remove excess product and therefore prevent a big ol clumpy mess.

Use a Mascara With a Small Wand
Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara
Using a mascara with a small wand or a mascara specifically designed for use on the lower lashes is one of the first and best steps to perfectly coating the lashes with minimal mess. Mascaras that are specifically designed for use on the lower lashes also have the additional benefit of longer lasting power. Try: Eyeko Skinny Mascara, Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara.

Hold a Spoon Underneath Your Lower Lashes

Whilst it’s a little outside the box, holding a spoon underneath your lashes whilst you apply mascara is one of my favourite makeup tricks. It’s perfect for increasing the length and volume of your lower lashes without any transfer or mess making it a great technique if you don’t have a steady hand or are a newbie with makeup.

“Stamp” Your Lashes

Rather than vigorously wiggling a mascara wand through your lower lashes or coating them individually with the tip of the wand; try gently placing the wand on your lower lashes and then quickly removing it. This will gently coat and give the lower lashes some colour without clumpiness.

Use a Lash Comb

Brow and Lash Comb If you’ve ever applied so much mascara that your lashes start looking more like spider legs than beautiful fluttery lashes, a lash comb can be your saving grace. After applying mascara, take a lash comb and gently comb through the lashes to remove excess product.
