Waterlining is great for adding a little va-va-voom to your eyes and giving them that bit of extra sultry definition. Whether you want to add some drama to your rich, smoky eye or reduce redness and brighten brighten with a nude eyeliner, waterlining can be a great technique. Whilst there is no way to get eyeliner on the waterline to last all day there are a few ways you can make it stretch a little further and not disappear five seconds after you’ve applied it…

When it comes to eyeliner on the waterline there is a lot of debate about what works best, liquid and powder are big no nos and may seriously irritate your eyes but pencil and gel are popular options. Gel can sometimes tickle the waterline and make the eyes water (depending on the brush you use) so my preferred option is pencil. I’m a fan of both Kohl Pencils (gentler on the eyes) and waterproof pencils (great but sometimes has trouble gripping to the waterline) I like Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Pencils and *Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Pencils
Dry It Off
Whether you’re using a waterproof formula or a kohl pencil, no product will stick to an area that is already wet! Many people overlook this step but drying off your waterline with a cotton tip prior to application can really help increase the longevity of eyeliner on your waterline.
Apply Two Coats
You wouldn’t apply just one coat of mascara so why do the same for your eyeliner? Apply one coat of eyeliner to your waterline after drying it off, let it dry and then apply another coat to “lock” in the eyeliner.
Also, if you’re someone whose eyes water regularly, have sensitive eyes or wear contact lenses I would suggest you ditch this technique. Also, I never recommend anyone waterline on a daily basis as it can be irritating to the eyes.
