In my opinion, blotting papers are one of the most unappreciated and under hyped beauty essentials out there, if you’re wanting to touch up or refresh your makeup in the middle of the day then oil blotting papers are your savior!
Generally speaking, the traditional way to use a sheet of blotting paper is to simply press it over the oily parts of your face with your fingertips. Whilst this works perfectly fine I love to fold blotting sheets over a wedge sponge as it allows me to get into areas like the corners of the nose and around the hairline.
BEFORE MAKEUP:
Blotting papers can be used before makeup to remove excess oils and moisturiser so that your foundation applies more evenly and you stay matte for longer. You can also use them before applying eye makeup to zap oil off the eyelids.
AFTER FOUNDATION:
If you’re someone with oily skin, try using a sheet of blotting paper after applying your foundation, but before your powder. That way you can get an even application of powder and remain oil free for a longer period of time. Plus, using oil blotting tissues before your powder can help stop it oxidizing!
MIDDLE OF THE DAY:
A sheet of blotting paper to combat midday shine will suffice for just about every skin type, but If you get super shiny try using a sheet of blotting paper and then a touch of powder to help really get rid of oiliness. If you’ve got dry skin you can still use blotting paper too, especially if you get a little bit of shine throughout the day as a result of heavy moisturisers or humidity and aren’t a fan of powder finishes.
