What are your favourite exfoliants ?

Exfoliating is an essential step in skincare, but it is often overlooked. It helps  remove dirts, oils and dead skin cells which have built up on the skin and in the pores (which can often cause acne and make the skin texture feel uneven) and can make the skin look and feel brighter, smoother and more even!

I’m not a big fan of granular/bead exfoliants because I find they can often be too harsh on the skin and can cause broken capillaries. Instead, I prefer (and recommend) chemical based exfoliants. They sound scary, but a lot of the time they’re more gentle than granular exfoliants and give much better results. Chemical exfoliants work by using ingredients like AHA’s (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) and BHA's (Beta Hydroxy Acids)

With chemical exfoliants it is super important to note that they can make your skin more sensitive to the sun so it’s important you only use them at night and use sunscreen daily.

This is possibly my favourite exfoliant. It’s natural and it’s gentle, but it still gives great results. You smooth a thin layer onto the skin, leave it for about five minutes (it starts to tingle a little!) and then remove it with warm water and a cotton pad. Each time I use this my skintone and texture feels much smoother and looks much brighter. It can leave skin feeling a little tight so make sure you use a moisturiser after!

This is great for the no-fuss girl or anyone who doesn’t have a lot of time to complete a lengthy skincare routine. Just smooth it over clean skin (as you would your moisturiser) go to bed and in the morning remove it with warm water and wohla: smoother skin! It’s gentle and it gives great results!

ALSO: Make sure you aren’t exfoliating more than three times a week (once a week should suffice for sensitive skin) otherwise you may over exfoliate the skin which can cause redness and irritation.
