Can you really make your own lip plumper?

Saving money is a great thing, finding a budget buy or a DIY option puts smile on everyone’s dial… Sort of. I’m a huge fan of drugstore brands and mixing up beauty products in your kitchen is great, if they are safe (such as using olive oil as a face cleanser and honey as a lip treatment) but adding random household and kitchen ingredients to regular beauty products isn’t such a great idea…

You see the thing is when it comes to makeup, skincare (and well just about anything really) scientists/cosmetic chemists know their stuff. Certain ingredients just aren’t made for use in cosmetics and if they are - they’re highly purified and have many preservatives to make them safe for topical use. Adding cinnamon or peppermint oil to your lipgloss to give it a “plumping” effect sounds like an easy, simple, money saving idea but these ingredients can react with other ingredients in your lipgloss and can even react with the chemicals in the plastic or glass used to store your lipgloss and the end result could give you more then plumped lips… The cinnamon or peppermint could give you a severe reaction (such as redness and itchiness) and could even possibly burn your lips (especially if you already have dry, cracked or chapped lips) so it is best to give it a miss.

Don’t try make your own makeup, save it to the pro’s and buy yourself a good plumping lipgloss instead  (Lip Fusion and Pixi By Petra Lip Plumper are both great) or check out my top tips for making lips look larger.
