This is a great question! There are so many formulas on the market nowadays rather than just standard powder foundation and it can often be confusing which formula is suitable for which skin type….
LIQUID FOUNDATION:
Liquids are suitable for ALL skin types but where possible choose a formula tailored to your skin type. Dry/Normal skin is best with a moisturising formula and Oily/Combo skin is best off with an oil-free mattifying formula. Try: Revlon ColorStay Foundation (for all skin types) and Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation (for normal, dry and combo skin)
MOUSSE FOUNDATION:
Mousse foundations are best suited towards those with normal or oily skin, they are generally NOT suitable for skin with any signs of dryness as they have a tendency to cling onto dry patches of the skin. Try: Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation and Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation
CREAM FOUNDATION:
Cream foundations are generally best suited towards those with dry to normal skin as they have intense moisturising properties and will often feel heavy and greasy on oily skin types. Try: Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Foundation, *NARS Radiant Cream Compact Foundation
CREAM TO POWDER FOUNDATION:
Stick foundations, water activated powder foundations and standard cream to powder foundations are best suited towards oily skin types, the formula applies as a cream and dries to a powder-like finish. Try: *Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Foundation Stick
POWDER FOUNDATION:
Powder foundations are my least favourite formula; on dry skin types they often cling onto dry patches and look dry and flaky and on oily skin types they are extremely prone to oxidizing with the oils on the skin. Powder foundation is only best if you have great, normal skin or just want to touch up your makeup during the day. Try: Makeup Forever Pro Finish Multi-Use Powder Foundation
