Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette Vol 3, Wearing shades: Tiki, Escape and Treasure
I love shimmer, glow, gloss and everything that sparkles, except when it comes to eyeshadows. I’ve always been someone who prefers matte shadows over shimmer and metallic, the fallout and the horrible task of removing makeup and still finding little bits of shimmer all over your face two days later are dealbreakers for me. However, I’ve got to say this Tarte palette is a real
treasure.
Tarte never seems to disappoint me with their eyeshadows and this palette is no exception. Designed as a “highlighting eyeshadow palette” this palette contains 8 shades, all of which, but one are shimmer based and in addition to being used as an eyeshadow, these also work great as highlighters on the rest of the face. Each shade is inspired by beautiful beaches, sand and seashells and each one performs consistently well.
The formula of the shadows, is unlike anything I’ve ever tried before,
not a cream to powder, not a powder, not a cream, but a unique super
soft powder eyeshadow that feels smooth, creamy and buttery, it’s almost
like a pressed pigment, but not quite. It’s so soft and touchable it
ever so slightly reminds me of the Stila Putty Highlighters. This unique
soft smooth and creamy formula means that fallout is kept to a minimum
(something extra important with shimmer shadows) and “kick back” is
virtually non-existent. The smooth and creamy formula also means each
colour is incredibly saturated and one swipe is all it takes to get
intense pigment. The matte shade (tiki) isn’t quite as creamy, smooth
and pigmented as the shimmers in the palettes, but that’s not to say it
still doesn’t perform well.
These eyeshadows are not your traditional eyeshadow, and as a result they can’t be applied with just any technique. For the best results either use your fingertips (bonus, the warmth of your finger will help make these shadows extra creamy) or use a synthetic eyeshadow brush to smooth and pack on the shadow, natural hair brushes are bound to have some difficulty as they struggle to pick up the creamy formula.
I
haven’t had any issues with excessive creasing or fading, but if you’ve
got oily eyelids like me I’d still recommend using an eyeshadow primer.
My one and only gripe with this palette is that I wish it had a few more
darker shades, and one or two more
mattes (there is only one matte shade, but that leans more satin than
true Matte) it’s a beautiful palette, but it can be a struggle to create
a whole look with just shimmery shades and in order to really get the
best results, you really need to accompany it with another palette that
has a touch more variation, (I personally recommend the Tarte Clay Play
Face Shaping Palette,
another one from Tarte which I love) If you’re a “one palette” kinda
girl, it’s probably not for you, but if you love really pretty shimmery
things and have a whole array of other shadows and palettes, it’s
definitely worth trying.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette Vol 3 Swatches
Treasure, Escape, Tiki, Heat wave, Malibu, Rays, Compass, Jewel
Treasure is a gorgeous cool pearlescent shade which is perfect for highlighting not only on the eyes, but also on the cheekbones and other areas of the face. It’s my favourite shade out of the palette and also one of my favourite face highlighters.
Escape is an interesting champagne pearl shade, it’s a touch golden and in some lights even slightly pinkish, again this shade makes a beautiful highlighter
Tiki is the one and only matte shade in this palette, it’s a pale beige which works best as a transition shade in the crease, this is not a true, traditional matte but more of a shimmer free satin. Like the shimmer shades it’s beautiful and creamy, but this one at times had a tendency in which it can apply unevenly and look patchy.
Heat wave is a gorgeous shimmering metallic nude pink,
Malibu is a strong, intense rich, warm, bronzy brown, it’s an expensive looking shade and is the darkest in the palette.
Rays is an interesting peachy copper shade, it’s shimmery and leans slightly golden
Compass is a beautiful champagne gold shade which despite having great pigment gives a hint of gold to the eyes whilst still looking natural.
Jewel is a gorgeous true rich copper shade and would look amazing on blue eyes.
