First off, make sure you aren’t applying too many hydrating products that provide a large amount of slip to the skin, this can make makeup fade quicker. Use a good oil free moisturiser or a mattifying sunscreen (I like the Boscia Oil Free Hydration Range and the *Ultraceuticals Daily Moisturiser SPF 30+ in Mattifying)
Obviously using a good primer is key to long lasting makeup, I personally find that drugstore brands tend to lack a good selection of primers and whilst they aren’t bad they just don’t seem to compare to high end versions. If you can I highly recommend dishing out the cash for the Smashbox Photo Finish Oil Free primer (go for the anti-shine one if sweat and shine is a huge issue) but otherwise the ELF Mineral Infused Face Primer is a great budget friendly alternative. (For the eyes nothing beats NARS Smudge Proof Pro Prime Eyeshadow Base but ELF Essential Eyelid Primer is good to)
The next step is use long wearing products, I find that foundation is the product you need to be concerned about in terms of staying power as it is most prone to fading. I love the Revlon Colorstay range for foundation (for oily skin/people prone to sweating use the oily/combo skin variation) For eye makeup try the Essence Stay All Day Eyeshadow or Maybelline Color tattoos, I also love the Essence Gel Eyeliner and Maybelline The Rocket Waterproof.
Finally it is time to set your makeup. Apply a translucent powder (I like Maybelline Shine Free Loose Powder) using a powder puff to apply (and a clean powder brush to dust off any excess) I find makeup setting sprays do a fantastic job at keeping makeup on, a good budget friendly option is the ELF Makeup Mist & Set.
ALSO: Long-wearing doesn’t mean waterproof and it is very difficult to keep makeup on through sweating/water. Less is always more so apply products sparingly and blend well. Too much product can actually make makeup fade more and cause creasing.
